المحاكمة كان فيها كشف لجرائم النظام العراقي السابق، وكانت فرصة لضحايا صدام لإيصال صوتهم ليعرف العالم ما لحق بهم جراء تجاوزات وبطش النظام السابق.. ما كنت أعرف الكثير عن أحداث الدجيل والأنفال لولا المحاكمة وسماع شهادة الشهود

انا اختلف معاكم بتفسير اعدام صدام أول ايام العيد
اعتقد إن استعجال الحكومة العراقية باعدام صدام كان له سبب منطقي وهو خشيتها من حدوث عمليات اختطاف واسعة لمقايضة الرهائن بصدام أو محاولة تهريبه بالتواطؤ ، أو عدم القدرة على مواجهة الضغوط الدولية الواسعة خصوصا من اوربا ومنظمات حقوق الإنسان التي كانت تسعى لخوض معركة طويلة لتخفيف حكم إعدامه .
ولهالسبب نشوف تنفيذ الاعدام ببرزان وعواد البندر تأخر ..
من هالسبب كان قرار رئيس الوزراء باعدام صدام قبل دخول العام الجديد.
والذي صادف عيد المسلمين .
Saddam was executed for Al-Dujail only because the other crimes he committed were either on behalf or in collaboration with the US. In the seventies, he carried out a massive campaign of repression against the Communists. He did that to satisfy his masters in the US. In the eighties, he launched a bloody eight-years war against the Iranians. He was helped by the US, the Brits, the French, the Saudis, and by us, the Kuwaitis. In 1990, he moved against us with the approval and encouragement of the US. After he was defeated in 1991, he used the sanctions imposed against him to destroy what was left of the Iraqi civil society and the internal opposition in the Army and in the civilian sector. Again, this was another gift to the US who created their own opposition groups in London and in Washington. So you see, the West, and the US in particular, were involved in one way or another in all of his other crimes. The US didn't want him to be tried for killing the Iraqis, the Iranians, and the Kuwaitis because they had a lot to hide. And I believe that there are many people here who were happy to see him executed before he was tried for his other crimes. Let's not forget that during the eighties (and I still remember those years) Kuwait was almost an Iraqi extension. On TV news we used to hear only about the Iraqi side of the military operations against Iran. If you had a chance to read Al-Seyassa, Al-Anba'a, Al-Rai Al-Aam, Al-Yaqatha, Al-Majalis and many other Kuwaiti publications during the 80's, you would have seen how much support Saddam had from our own media. Of course, the support was not only in the media, but also in the business sector and in the government. Saddam's trial was never intended to be about justice. It was simply a theatrical to hide those who supported Saddam during his 35 years of terror. And with his execution, he took the secrets of the other criminals with him. But as we see, the US and its allies made Saddam hero and a martyr! And that's another stupid action that they will regret very soon!

I don't care how he died, it doesn't bring back anyone, and it doesn't change any of my memories or suffering. i.e. There is some sense of justice, but it just doesn't change anything for his living victims and it doesn't make their past go away.
P.S. I've been dreaming about him -Saddam- every single night since his execution. And that's how much he had a direct effect on our lives.

I felt disgusted when I saw the video it was very disturbing even to me as a kuwaiti.
But at the end he deserved to die maybe not now it should have been delayed till after he spills his guts about the invasion
he should have been tortured.. executing him was being merciful.. i wasnt happy at all.. happy shopping, hope you didnt go broke yet .. :)

They killed Saddam before we get to know his side of the story about Kuwait invasion! Why they did not wait until they prosecute him about Kuwait? I guess they want to cover up for something big. Now his side of the story is lost for ever…

What the story of Saddam was:
He was expansionist pan-Arab Baathist. Baath was and is party very strong in Iraq.
He was goaded by GCC countries to invade Iran. "Eastern Gate-keeper"
USA was behind GCC goading.
Iran fought back, helped by USA. They are secret lovers for a long time.
Saddam asked for GCC & USA help. (Tanker wars & Fao liberation)
Needed chemical weapons to stop advancing Iranians. Got them through multinational Kuwaiti philanthropist who bought them from South America (think it's Chile).
GCC gave Saddam a lot of their arsenal and became more defenseless against him. ("wa la talqu nafsikum bi tahluka")
Got pissed off at Kuwait and invaded. The real reason may have been to control oil in all GCC. A very important asset in the 21st century.
USA +30 countries "liberated" Kuwait.
Iraq and public opinion was weakened by 12 years of sanctions.
Catalyst for Iraq invasion was USA asset Mr O. Bin Laden, his stooges and handlers doing 9-eleven.

According to criminal law in Iraq, if a man reached 70 then he is automatically exempt from capital punishment, and he shall receive a life sentence instead. Saddam would turn 70 on 28th April, so Iraqi officials saw it necessary to go on with the execution before this date.

Dagger, true, no arab country respects its laws, and especially Iraq because of its troubled state, but in the case of Saddam's trial his accusors didn't wish to face more legal complications because of his age.
Besides, for a man with his record of crime, it would take years and even decades to numerate all his crimes and give him a just sentence for each and every one of them. So they had two choices to make, wish that he would reach 90 to have a chance to persecute him for all his crimes, or go on with a sentence that was determined even before the trial started. Everybody knows that he's a dead man walking, the question was, when will he be put to death.
The funny thing, is that the Iraqi government, in this eagerness to carry out the sentence, has actually violated one of Iraq's execution laws which states that no criminal is to be executed on days of religious celebrations, including 3eed el ath7a.
