From the poem Woman Alone, by Gloria Anzaluda:
I remain who I am, multiple and one
of the herd, yet not of it.
I walk on the ground of my own being
browned and hardened by the ages.
I am fully formed
carved by the hands of the ancients,
drenched with the stench of today's headlines.
But my own hands whittle
the final work
me.
Mucho gracias, Sis

Oh how I can relate to this one (sigh)
Ayya,
I envy you..
I'm only trying to relate to it
It’s this time in your life shurouq when you say it’s enough, this is my life, why should others live it? And when you decide to live it, you have to sacrifice, but at the end you know at least you are true to yourself. I’m not implying rudeness here, just plain me, take it or leave it. And knowing you sweetie, I know that someday, you will be free, at least to your own standards.
Rabab,
I have done that.. well, to a certain extent. I am free.. relatively.
I'm just not "fully formed" yet.. neither do I like what my hands have whittled so far :)
3asa edainich ma tmis-ha elnar what ever it had whittled
Excellent post Shurouq :) It's fun to see how everyone can relate to this. Before joining blogworld I thought I was the only kuwaity chick who thought ... let's say differently (for lack of a better word). It seems I was wrong (and obviously extremely arrogant) in thinking that, but I'm glad that we are many. We just have to find each other. Whittle away :)

D&G,
I still think of myself as a very typical Kuwaiti girl (who falls for very typical Kuwaiti men.. and regrets it later on lol)
And how often to you need to be pushed, girl???
